Anniston – Funeral service for CSM Grady A. Coats, 82, (US Army RET. ), will be held on Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Anniston Memorial Funeral Home. Burial will immediately follow the service in Anniston Memorial Gardens, with full military honors.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12 noon – 2:00 p.m. prior to the service on Wednesday. CSM Coats passed away on Friday, July 20, 2018. CSM Coats is survived by his wife of 60 years, Karoline Wittmann Coats of Anniston; his son, Steve (Dana) Coats of Moody; one brother, Benji (Rene) Coats of Philadelphia, MS; three sisters-in-law, Marianne (Frank) Muller of Heidelberg, Germany, Gertrude Litter of Heidelberg, Germany and Judy Coats of Philadelphia, MS; and several nieces and nephews.

CSM Coats retired from the US Army after 30 years of dedicated service. He served his country during the Vietnam War Era. CSM Coats was a military police officer and the Senior NCO of Military Police Officers at Fort McClellan.

After retiring from the Army, he worked as the Jailer for 10 years with the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office and then worked as a Security Guard for the Calhoun County Commissioner’s Office. CSM Coats was of the Baptist faith. He was a loving and devoted, husband, father and brother and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
