Cyril L. Rohde of Hartford, passed away Sunday, May 13, at Aurora Medical Center at the age of 92 years. He was born December 19, 1925 in the town of Burnett, WI the son of Jesse and Gertrude (nee Reichert) Rohde. In addition to his family and his Church, Cyril was passionate about farming and music.
He worked the land all his life and was an active member of several agricultural organizations. As a young man in 1947 he came to Hartford as a hired hand for Herb Lepien. Then he met the love of his life, Betty.
Before marrying in 1952, he honorably served 2 years in the Korean Conflict, then returned to start his family, and finally purchased the farm from Herb in 1962. His love of music was inherited from his multi-talented Mother who started him singing in the church choir at an early age. He was a founding member of the Hartford Community Chorus (1950) and sang tenor in the church choir and men’s chorus.
As Cyril’s family grew, his face always lit up when the grandchildren and great grandchildren would gather on the farm. He enjoyed a wide circle of friends, joining the Young Adults Club of Washington County in 1947 and continuing throughout his life. One of his greatest pleasures was setting off with Betty and a group of friends, pulling his camper across Wisconsin and the US.
He also enjoyed snowmobiling, country music and polka dancing. Cyril is survived by his loving wife Betty his loving children, Russel (Teri) Rohde of AZ, Susan (Gary) Mitsch of MN, Richard (Gail) Rohde of Hartford, and Steven (Christine) Rohde of MN, also surviving are his precious 7 grandchildren, Lynne, Ashley, Eric, Brendan, Pamela, Anna, Brian and 7 great-grandchildren, his sisters Audrey Rohde, Betty Robinson, Beverly Kossen, Angeline Riege and Helen (Norman) Kenning and other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his sister Connie and brother Floyd.
Visitation is Saturday, May 19th at First United Methodist Church, 738 W. Monroe Street, Hartford from 10AM -Noon. Funeral Service will follow at Noon. Rev.
