Dane’s Obituary DANE CLIFTON HAVENS, 81, passed away Tuesday, October 30, 2018, at his home in Rocky Gap, VA, following a lengthy illness. Dane was born in the Crandon section of Bland County, VA on March 11, 1937, the son of the late Rufus William & Lida Hughes Havens. He graduated from Bland High School in 1954 and entered the United States Army, where he served in West Germany for two years.

Given the nickname “Rooster” by coworkers, he worked as a conductor for the Pocahontas Division of Norfolk Southern Railway and retired with 28 years of service. During his younger days, he enjoyed playing and coaching youth baseball. He was a faithful member of Rocky Gap United Methodist Church and the Rocky Gap Ruritan Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter, Rebecca Dawn and three brothers, Hale, Edward and Raymond. Survivors include his best friend and wife of 59 years, Jane; his sons & daughters-in-law, Timothy & Amy Havens, Rocky Gap, Jeffrey & Chrystal Havens, Roanoke and Matthew Havens, Roper, NC; sister Marie Havens Yates and brother, Garland Havens. He was known as “Poppy” and loved his grandchildren Rebecca and husband Rodney, Jared, Carrie, Brooke, Ryan and Noah.

The family would like to extend its gratitude to the nurses and staff of Wythe Hospice of Southwest Virginia and to special care givers, Deana Stowers, Peggy Sue Ellison and Mike Barnes. A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 3, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. at Rocky Gap United Methodist Church with Rev. Rodney Lawson and Rev.

Michael Barnes officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 12:00 P.M. until service time, 2:00 P.M. Dane will be buried at Shiloh Cemetery following a private committal service. Memorial contributions may be sent to Wythe Hospice of Southwest Virginia at 1155 North 4th Street, Wytheville, VA 24382.
