Darla Jean Baarda, 60, of Newton died on Sunday, July 1, 2018, at her home. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 7, 2018, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.

Memorials to the Great Commission Fund at the Community Heights Alliance Church may be left at the funeral home. Darla was born on August 13, 1957 in Des Moines. At the age of 6 months she was adopted by her parents, Robert and Donna (Van Der Zyl) Baarda.

She grew up in Newton and graduated form Newton High School in 1975. Darla had worked at Telligen, formerly known as Iowa Foundation for Medical Care, for over 30 years. She was an active member of the Community Heights Alliance Church where she was involved in ladies groups, mission work, and had taught Sunday School for 30 years.

She had a love for music and had taught piano lessons. Darla enjoyed babysitting for her nieces when they were young and had taken many girls trips. She also enjoyed traveling with her parents.

Darla is survived by her father, Bob Baarda of Newton; sister, Diane (Kelvin) Vander Weerdt of Sully; her nieces, Darci (Josh) Keller of Toledo and Grace (Matthew) Smalley of Sully; and great-nephew, Lane Kitzmann of Sully. She was preceded in death by her mother, Donna Baarda on February 26, 2018 and her maternal and paternal grandparents.
