Obituary for Darwin G. Robbins Darwin G. Robbins was born October 9, 1935 in Omaha to Glenn and Marie (Neff) Robbins. Darwin grew up in Wahoo and graduated from Wahoo High School in 1954. In August of 1954 he married Donna Meduna.
Five children were born to this union. Darwin worked at AT&T/Lucent Technologies for 34 years in a variety of positions. He was committed to his family, and part of that commitment was to make sure that he provided well for them financially.
Darwin always worked two jobs throughout his life. For more than ten years, he and his business partner operated Trucker’s Lubrication in Omaha where Darwin would spend his evenings after working the day shift at AT&T. He also sold real estate in Wahoo for 30 years as well as vacuum cleaners and a multitude of other household products in order to make a few more dollars which he used to treat his family to some of the extras in life.
Sunday drives in the family station wagon, picnics in Fremont, and spending time with his extended family were some of the most important things in Darwin’s life. Darwin enjoyed trips to Worlds of Fun with his children, nieces, nephews and grandchildren. He was especially fond of the memories he created with his children while attending Grand Ole Opry concerts at Aksarben and summer vacations at Lake Okoboji.
In June of 1982, Darwin married Christy Hunter in Bellevue. Together, they became avid campers. Following his retirement, Darwin found himself in a “Mr. Mom” role when Christy went back to work.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, the original Wahoo Kiwanis Club, the Eagle’s Club, and Hilltop Country Club where he took pride in mowing the golf course for 18 years. The Price Is Right never had a more loyal fan than Darwin Robbins. He competed with the show’s contestants, tabulating prices and, more often than not, beating the contestants to the correct answer.
Darwin was preceded in death by his parents; brother Leland Robbins; and sisters Helen Warner and Jean Beezley. He is survived by wife Christy Robbins of Wahoo; son Randy (Anne) Robbins of Wahoo; daughters Roxane (Toby) Malousek of Wahoo, Ramona (Buzz) Miller of Weston, Shelli Robbins of Wahoo, Rhonda (Darron) Arlt of Plainview, Brooke (Brandon) Lenhoff of Lincoln; sisters Karen Garrison (Jim Bales) of Fremont, Cheryl (Alan) Miller of Mt. Pleasant, IA; 14 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.
