Obituary for David Trauthwein David Paul Trauthwein A much-loved husband, son, brother, uncle, and gentle soul, David Paul Trauthwein, 52, of Battle Creek MI, passed away at his home June 25, 2018. He was born December 26, 1965 in Hamilton, Ohio, to Daniel Alan Trauthwein and Betty Lou (Baynes) Trauthwein. David has been a resident of Battle Creek for the last 15 years, but grew up in Portage, Michigan after his family relocated there from Ohio.

He was formerly employed as an Optician by various area optical centers. He was always known as that “Eye Guy”. He graduated from Portage Central High in 1984 and received an Associate’s degree in Art from Kalamazoo Valley Community College in 1987.

David married Sean Francis Hewlett of Battle Creek on October 31st, 2015, but they had been together since 2003. David enjoyed collecting Mid Century Modern odds & ends including decorative Blow Molds, lamps, and anything vintage Halloween. Surviving are his husband, mother, Betty Trauthwein of Bullhead City, AZ, sister, Kimberly (Steve) Semenczuk of Hudson, OH, brothers, Ken (Susan) Trauthwein of Clawson, MI, and Daniel Trauthwein of Pendleton IN, grandfather Merle Baynes of Hamilton, OH, and several aunt, uncles, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Daniel Trauthwein on March 09, 2016. Visitation will be held at the Baxter Funeral & Cremation Service, 375 W. Dickman Road, on Friday June 29, 2018, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm and on Saturday June 30 at 11:00 am followed immediately by a funeral service at 12:00 pm with Rev. James Codde officiating.
