David Charles Mut July 21, 1944 – November 20, 2018 David Mut passed away on November 20, 2018 at Lawrence and Memorial Hospital in New London after a long and debilitating illness. David was the son of Joseph and Sybil Mut. He was a graduate of New Britain High School and received a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts from Drew University in Madison, New Jersey.

He also received a Master of Divinity from the Hartford Seminary. David was ordained an elder of the United Methodist Church in 1971. He served as an associate pastor at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Middletown, New York and as pastor of the Kensington United Methodist Church.

During his ministry, David coordinated the development of a crisis intervention and drug rehabilitation program and was a member of the New York Conference on Youth Ministries. He also served as the Youth Director for the Connecticut Central District. Before his retirement, David was the Program Coordinator of Martin House in Norwich.

David was a long-time and active member of the Niantic Community Church and was involved in numerous community service projects, including working with a number of other volunteers to establish the first AIDS project in Southeastern Connecticut. David will be remembered by his family and many friends as a kind and giving man with a great sense of humor. David is survived by his sister, Jacquelyn Lowe, of Whiting, Maine, niece Mireille Lowe of Greenbrook, New Jersey, nephew Nathanael Lowe and his wife Ann Marie of Cranford, New Jersey, two great nieces, Michaela Lowe and Kathleen Lowe, and two great nephews, Aiden and Liam Shulca.

He is also survived by his former brother-in-law, Frederick Lowe of Frenchtown, New Jersey. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 24, 2018 at 2:00 PM at the Niantic Community Church, 170 Pennsylvania Avenue, Niantic, Connecticut, followed by a reception at the church. Contributions in David’s memory may be made to the Niantic Community Church or to a non-profit organization of your choosing.
