Peter Richard Zaneski, 64, of Waterford, CT, passed away on January 19, 2019, at his home. Born on March 28, 1954 in New London, CT, he was the son of Clara Smith and the late Bruno Zaneski. He was the loving husband of Laurie Moyer Zaneski.

Surviving in addition to his wife are his children and their spouses: Alysha and Neal Carmody, Zach and Nicole Zaneski, and Maura and Jason Bakoulis; grandchildren: CJ, Calvin, and Laurel Carmody; brother William Zaneski; and numerous nieces and nephews. His brother Daniel Zaneski predeceased him. Peter attended Waterford Public Schools and was a graduate of St. Paul School in Bristol, CT class of 1972.

He attended Southern Connecticut State University before transferring to Central Connecticut State University (CCSU) where he was a member of OKD fraternity. He competed as a football player and track and field athlete graduating from CCSU in December 1977. Peter was an educator, impacting students at many schools in Southeastern Connecticut.

In 1995, he found his home at New London High School, recently moving to the New London Science and Technology Magnet High School, retiring in 2018. Prior to 1995, students at Griswold High School, Ledyard Middle School, Lyman Memorial Junior and Senior High School in Lebanon, Mount St. John’s School for Boys, and Montville High School were lucky enough to be in his class. Not only did Peter touch the lives of students in the classroom, he touched the lives of athletes as a football coach, girls’ basketball coach, and track and field coach.

His coaching included youth programs and high school programs for the schools where he taught, as well as Norwich Free Academy. He was also lucky enough to coach his own son, son-in-law, and grandsons in youth football. Of all of his accomplishments, his family was held in the highest esteem.

Family activities, countless sporting events, and countless Saturday dinners will never be forgotten. The family will receive visitors for a memorial gathering on Saturday February 2, 2019 from 11AM – 1PM at Scanlon Auditorium, New London High School, with a memorial service at 1PM. In lieu of flowers, donations for a scholarship in his name may be made to New London Education Foundation, PO Box 343, New London, CT 06320.
