OBITUARY Jean Rowley May 30, 1929 – January 24, 2019 Jean E. Rowley, 89, of Waterford, passed away on Thursday, January 24, 2019 at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital in New London. Jean was born on May 30, 1929 in New London to Benjamin E. and Gladys (Myers) Rowley. Jean graduated from Williams Memorial Institute (WMI) and Eastern Connecticut State College.

She taught 3rd grade at Cohanzie School in Waterford for 38 years, retiring in 1988. Her hobbies included knitting, embroidery, crafts, and reading and she had many collections including an Amish Village, Beany Babies, and dolls. She was a lover of all animals, especially dogs.

She was a loving and caring person who made friends easily, and once that bond of friendship was established, it was for life. Jean enjoyed cooking and hosting parties in her home. Jean was an active member of the community.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of New London before joining Flanders Baptist Church of East Lyme. She was also involved with the Waterford Historical Society, Waterford Republican’s Women’s Club, New London County Retired Teachers, Jordan Cemetery Assiociation, Lawrence & Memorial Hospital’s Auxiliary, and was a volunteer with the hospital for 17 years. Jean is survived by her cousin MiIdred Hulderman of Tucson, Arizona and her two cousins Charles Johnson and wife Barbara of East Lyme, and Allan Johnson and wife Doreen of Uncasville.

Also surviving Jean is her lifelong beloved friend Mrs. Emma Corcoran of Waterford. In addition, there are many devoted friends in her close circle who have gathered for many events throughout her days; she will be missed and remembered by all. It became an honor and a joy for Cordelia Graves of Uncasville and Tara Filip of Niantic to share these friends and adventures with her.

She is predeceased by her precious and ever-loving dog, Muffin. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, January 30, 2019 from 4 until 6 PM in Fulton-Theroux Funeral Home, 181 Ocean Ave. , New London, CT 06320.

A funeral service will be held the following day on Thursday, January 31, 2019 at 10 AM in Flanders Baptist Church, 162 Boston Post Rd. , East Lyme, CT 06333. Burial will follow in Jordan Cemetery, Waterford.
