Deborah Dorathea “Debra” Schlueter, age 63, of Long Lake, passed away on October 16, 2018, at her home. She was born on January 20, 1955 in Lincoln, NE. While working as a waitress at a burlesque bar in New Orleans, Debra met Timothy Schlueter.

After knowing each other for over a decade, they were united in marriage at an old 1840s family homestead on August 26, 2000 in Morton Grove. In her early years, Debra was very outdoorsy. Debra was a jazz connoisseur and especially enjoyed the smooth tunes of pianist Chick Corea. Obsessed with Alice in Wonderland, Debra’s favorite quote was, “Going down the rabbit hole”. Above all else, Debra will be remembered for her fearlessness and unmatched strength.

Every day for 18 years was a new battle against the multiple sclerosis that afflicted her and her husband, Tim. Debra bravely persevered. She was a true warrior.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Tim Schlueter; sister-in-law, Clare (Jerry) Sherman; brother-in-law, Matthew (the late Angela) Schlueter; in-laws, Nancy (Robert) Morrison; nieces and nephews, Rachael, Lucas, Allison, Shaun, Nancy, Patrick, Joy; mother, Janice (Al) Mommeny; and two siblings. Debra will be deeply missed by her cat companion, “Odysseus the Mighty IL Osolittle”. He could usually be found following her around and sitting faithfully on her lap and will now be lost without her.

A Celebration of Life in honor of Debra will be held on Monday, October 29, 2018 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Justen’s Round Lake Funeral Home, 222 N. Rosedale Ct. , Round Lake, IL 60073. Debra’s Celebration of Life will resume the following morning from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the funeral home.
