After a courageous battle with a brain tumor that she fought every single day with her contagious smile and calm demeanor, she gained her angel wings and was greeted in Heaven by her beloved son, Mark, who preceded her in death. Diane will be remembered by all for her beautiful smile, kind heart, sharp wit, humor and unwavering loyalty to family and friendships.
She was a hard worker who left an impact on anyone and everyone she encountered throughout life. Diane worked at Sunrise Fruit Co., her late father’s family-owned business, for 25 years. Upon its closure, she worked for the YMCA, American Family Fitness and, most recently, LSE Health and Wellness, where she spent the past two years alongside her dear friend Lisa J. Those that knew her well would say she was a constant and steady light in their life.
And those who only briefly encountered her quickly discovered the same, as Diane never met a stranger, withheld a friendly smile or didn’t try to make you feel at ease and welcomed. Born October 11, 1955, to the late Richard Jacob Jr. and Rose Geruntino Jacob, Diane is survived by her husband of 34 years, Ron Barton; sisters, Darlene J. Coleman (Don) and Vicky Jacob; and brother, Richard Jacob III and Jo Jacob, all of Richmond, as well as Nancy Barton, Steve and Janet Trant, Karen and Glen Woodard, of Fredericksburg, Va. ; along with many nieces and nephews and, of course, her beloved gaggle of girlfriends who enjoyed dancing at Enzo’s, playing cards and just hanging out being girls.
A celebration of her life will be held at a later date. For now, the family asks that you light a candle in Diane’s memory, either at your church or however you worship Our Lord and Savior, in her memory and for eternal peace.
