George Hollins West III August 03, 1942 – December 21, 2018 Share this obituary Local Florists Send Sympathy Gifts Sign Guestbook| Send Private Condolences| Send Sympathy Card WEST, George Hollins III, 76, of Mechanicsville, passed away on December 21, 2018, at St. Mary’s Hospital, surrounded by his family and dear friends. A lifelong resident of Mechanicsville, he was born August 3, 1942. He was preceded in death by his parents, George Hollins West Jr. and Pearl Barnette West; and his sister, Patricia West Saunders.

He married Faye Reynolds on November 25, 1978, in Highland Springs, Va. George went to Lee-Davis High School and served in the United States Army for six years. Beyond his military career, he said his greatest achievement was his 33-year career at Phillip Morris, his family and friends.

He got the most joy in life by simple things camping, fishing, traveling to Florida to spend time with his family and going to the beach. He found some of his dearest friends at Bethpage Camp Resort in Urbanna, Va. , where he spent his retirement years fishing on the Rappahannock River.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 40 years; three children, Angela West (Mike) of St. Petersburg, Fla. , Michele Carson (Ray) and Sherry West, of Tampa, Fla. ; and two grandchildren, Samantha Money and Zack Carson; and a brother-in-law, Phillip G. Reynolds Jr. of Richmond.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, December 26, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Rd. , with services to follow Thursday, December 27, at 1 p.m. Interment Forest Lawn Cemetery. Contributions, in lieu of flowers, to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
