Obituary for Dolores Theresa Merrival-Griffin (Merrival) Dolores began her journey to the Spirit World on December 6, 2018 surrounded by family. Dolores was the eldest daughter born to Ethel Ecoffey Merrival and Pedro Merrival on June 2, 1930. Dolores is survived by her loving husband of 50 years Ronald Griffin, one living son Alex Griffin, brother Joseph “Poker Jo” Merrival of Pine Ridge SD, sisters Iris Merrival Wilson of Porcupine SD, Betty Merrival Blain of Laguna Ca, Judy Merrival Merdanian of Black Tail Deer SD, 21 nieces and 23 nephews and hundreds of great and great great grand nieces and nephews, all of which she wanted to know she loves very much.

Family that journeyed on before Dolores were her mother Ethel, father Pedro, daughter Ann, son Gregory, brothers Paul McDaniel, Fred McDaniel, Floyd Merrival, Barton Merrival Sr., Russell “Rusty” Merrival, Peter Hermis “Peachy” Merrival. Dolores was born on the Pine Ridge Agency. She attended Holy Rosary Mission until 10th grade.

As a teenager, Dolores spent her summers working for Kay Burgous at the Mt. Rushmore gift shop. Dolores went to care for an elderly woman Mrs. Gurney and graduated from a school in Yankton and attended college.

Dolores left the Reservation and lived in many places until settling in Puyallup Washington with her husband Ronald Griffin and son Alex. She was a loving and dedicated wife and mother. She was most proud of her son and all his accomplishments retelling his entire life mile stones often.

Although Dolores dwelled in Puyallup her later years, she always referred to the Pine Ridge reservation as her home. One of Dolores’s greatest joys was reminiscing in person or on the phone of days gone by. She was a wealth of information and history of the old days living in Pine Ridge.

Dolores is loved immensely and will be greatly missed. Dolores will be cremated and her ashes will be brought to Pine Ridge sometime in the summer of 2019 with services and burial at the Merrival family homestead.
