Donald Conley George Stolz, Sr., age 80, passed away on June 11, 2018. He was born on June 25, 1937 in Saginaw, Michigan to parents, Fredrich Johannes Stolz and Fredia (Conley) Stolz. He graduated from Saginaw Arthur Hill High School in 1955.

He attended Ferris State University where he was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha, and graduated from Michigan State University with a B.S. degree in urban planning. He was a planner for the… Read More » City of Saginaw and later worked for a private consulting firm, before coming to the State of Michigan as a grant administrator and transportation planner, retiring in 1992.

Donald was a registered community planner in the State of Michigan and was a member of several planning organizations. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Saginaw, a First Lieutenant in the United States Army Reserve and a member of the American Legion. Hobbies included officiating high school basketball games, playing fast-pitch softball, basketball and bowling in both Saginaw and Lansing.

He was a member of the Germania Club in Saginaw, Oneida Township Zoning Board, AARP, State Employees Retirement Association and a lifetime member of the MSU Alumni Association. An avid sports fan, he closely followed the Detroit Tigers and MSU athletics. He attended MSU basketball games for over 40 years, played cards and did crossword puzzles, as well as enjoyed get-togethers with his kids and grandkids.

Don was a volunteer for the Grand Ledge Historical Society, Community Meal and Special Olympics. Surviving are his wife Marian, three children: Donald Jr. of Grand Rapids, MI, Charles (Suzanne) of Grand Ledge, MI and Howell, MI, Erica of Portage, MI; and four grandchildren, Brandon, Katie, Briget and Luke. Also surviving are brother-in-law, Charles (Kathy) Reddick of East Tawas, MI and nephew Adam Reddick of Bay City, MI.

He is pre-deceased by his cousin, Jack (Marie) Baker of Saginaw, MI. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Saturday, June 30, 2018 – 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church, 201 E. Jefferson St., Grand Ledge, MI 48837, with Rev. W. Richard Hamlin as celebrant.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials in the name of Donald Stolz, Sr. be made to Trinity Episcopal Church (Grand Ledge) or Special Olympics. The family is being served by the Peters & Murray Funeral Home, Grand Ledge. www.
