Donald Wayne “Don” Parker, 77, of Happy died Wednesday, June 6, 2018. Services will be 2:00 P.M. Friday, June 8 at the Canyon Hills Church of Christ with Steve McLean and Curtis Shelburne, officiating. Burial will follow at Dreamland Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 7 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Brooks Chapel in Canyon. Arrangements are by Brooks Funeral Directors. Don was born on July 14, 1940 in Draw, Texas to John and Patriel Brown Parker.

He married Jean Taylor on September 17, 1961 in Tulia. Don had a master’s degree in education. He was a coach, principal, and superintendent.

He loved kids and bent over backwards for his teachers. He was a member of Canyon Hills Church of Christ, Kiwanis, a Key Club Adviser and the Texas State Federation of Square and Round Dancers. Don enjoyed square dancing, woodworking, farming, and serving in his church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Patriel; parents-in-law, C.L. and Robin Taylor; and siblings, Cleila Coker, Fay Brunson, Irene Hopper, Wanda McWilliams, Johnny Parker, Jo Bryans, Ruth Barrett, James Parker and Gene Parker. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Jean; daughter, Donae Smith and husband, Scott; granddaughter, Ashleigh Smith; grandson, Ryan Smith; numerous nieces and nephews; and many friends. The family suggests that memorials be made to Texas Teen Scholarship, P.O. Box 903, Glenrose, TX 76043 or to the Christian Relief Fund, P.O. Box 19670, Amarillo, TX 79114.
