Obituary for Donnie Hawkins Donald (Donnie) Eugene Hawkins, age 65, went to be with the Lord early Thursday morning, January 10, 2019 surrounded by his loving family. Donnie was born in Knoxville, TN on November 22, 1953 to TJ and Margaret Hawkins. Donnie will be remembered by his many accomplishments and his love for serving his community.
Donnie was Captain of Hawkins County Rescue Squad and was an avid member for 43 years; he was a member of the Persia Volunteer Fire Department for over 36 years, where he held various titles before becoming Assistant Chief. Donnie was also an avid member of T.A.R.S. , where he was Region 1 training coordinator.
Donnie was a member of McCloud Baptist Church. His love for serving his community was apparent by his lifelong dedication to Emergency Services. No one who met Donnie Hawkins forgot his infectious passion for serving his community and the love he had for his family.
Donnie is survived by his childhood sweetheart and wife of 43 years, Judy C. Hawkins; daughters, Stacy L. Mayes and her husband James, LeAnn Lawson and her husband Dennis, Andrea Paige Hawkins and her fiancé Isaac; six grandsons, Tyler, Luke, and Chandler Mayes, Ethan and Nathan Lawson, Billy Coffey, and stepgrandson, Bodie. He was preceded in death by his parents, TJ and Margaret Hawkins; and lifelong friend, Charles “Chili” Saunders. The family would like to express our thanks for the wonderful help and care given by Amedisys Hospice of Morristown, and all Donnie’s family, friends, and fellow Brothers of the Hawkins County Rescue Squad, Hancock County Rescue Squad, and Persia Volunteer Fire Department, all of whom showed overwhelming love and support.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm Saturday, January 12, 2019 at Christian-Sells Funeral Home, 1520 E. Main Street, Rogersville, TN. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Sunday, January 13, 2019 with Rev. Bobby Bentley and Jamie Rogers officiating.
