Obituary for Dora Alejo (Schaffer) Dora Schaffer Alejo, 84 passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home in Las Cruces, NM on April 28, 2018 surrounded by her family. Dora was born November 6, 1933 in Monticello, New Mexico to Phillip Schaffer and Josephine Duran Schaffer. Dora is preceded in death by her husband Emilio A. Alejo after 31 years of marriage.

Dora was a proud graduate of Mayfield High School, and a past member of the Catholic Daughters. Dora was also a past President of the DAV Auxiliary; she was very instrumental in the Las Cruces Public Schools Helping Hands After School Program. Dora loved her many, many years working at the Local Pizza Huts as a maintenance worker / prep cook.

She enjoyed doing her embroidery, dancing, singing, cooking for her family and friends, no one was a stranger, she embraced life with a “Go For It” attitude. She is survived by her siblings; brothers Frank (Carolyn) Schaffer and Jessie (Wanda) Schaffer of Farmington, New Mexico and her sisters Della (Eddie) McNutt of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Gladys (Neal) Robertson of California, and Bertha-Maea (Wayne) Morgan of Silver City, New Mexico. She is survived by her children; son Harry (Leola) Alejo of La Alamosa, Colorado, her daughter Mildred Mabe of North Carolina, her daughter Mary Lou Amick (Jim) of the Family Home in Las Cruces, New Mexico, her daughter Kathie (Joey) Sanchez of Las Cruces, New Mexico, her son Les (Jill) Alejo of Las Cruces, New Mexico, her son Johnny Alejo Wind (Diane) of Silver City, New Mexico, and her daughter Marie Alejo (Anthony) of Las Cruces, New Mexico.

At the time of her death she was graced with 11 Grand Children and 19 Great Grand Children, plus the numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Dora is preceded in death by her siblings; brother Ivan Schaffer, sister Josie Schaffer Chavez, brother Phillip Schaffer all of Oakland, California, brother Willie Schaffer of Hurley, New Mexico, sister Virginia Schaffer Primm of Arkansas, and her Grand Daughter Kelly Alejo of La Alamosa, Colorado. Pallbearers; Bobby Valencia, Joe Flores, Ronnie James Apodaca, Cody Alejo, Clayton Alejo and Christopher Alejo.

A Rosary with Funeral Liturgy will be held at 9:30 am Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, with Father Josh officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery, with reception to be held at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Hall. In Lieu of flowers please donate to your favorite Charity.
