Obituary for Timothy Gutierrez Timothy “Tim” Anthony Gutierrez, age 52 earned his Angel Wings in Salt Lake City, Utah April 24, 2018 with his love of thirty years Marta by his side. Tim was born June 20, 1965 in Las Cruces, New Mexico to Antonio Gutierrez Jr. and Priscilla Trujillo. He was their second son of four.

Tim was a loving, devoted husband, daddy, son, brother, uncle and friend. He had the cheeriest of dispositions even when he wasn’t feeling well. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, his love of family and friends and for his love of animals.

He always said “I love you” and he showed it. He fought the hard fight here on Earth clinging to that ole rugged cross and he exchanged it for his crown. Tim attended schools in Las Cruces where he excelled in every subject especially Mathematics.

He was a proud graduate of Mayfield High School and enjoyed the annual rivalry between the Trojans and Bulldawgs with Marta and many of his friends and relatives. His love of Chess began early in his childhood and he began competing in High School where he often placed First. He majored in Electrical Engineering at New Mexico State University where he was a Crimson Scholar and naturally made the Dean’s list.

Tim’s first job was selling ice-cream from a small freezer attached to his bike, and never quit working after that. He held many jobs including working in the electronics department at Walmart. Before he became ill he worked for FedEx Office for almost twenty years.

Tim enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially barbeques and birthday parties. He loved celebrating Christmas, Easter and Thanksgiving with his and mom, his brother’s, and his children. Father’s Day and Mother’s Day he and Marta always went to the Horse Racetrack with their friends.

Tim was an excellent handicapper but was very sensible at betting so he never won the big bucks, but he had great fun. In his youth besides being awesome at playing Chess, he also earned his Brown Belt in TaeKonDo and he remained “Inside Gentle, Outside Strong” for the rest of his years. Tim was no stranger to poker and like everything else he set his great mind to he was very good at it, enjoying many Poker Tournaments with his brother Matthew and friends.

Something not to many people knew about Tim was that he played the saxophone very well, when he met Marta he told her he was no Chuck Mangione but he’d romance her someday and he did…… He is survived by his wife Marta, one son Nicholas (Cecilia), one daughter Julissa (Pablo) and his fur baby Mr. Black. His mother Priscilla, brother’s Ronald (Martha), Matthew (Veronica) and Javier Gutierrez all of Las Cruces. He is also survived by three nieces Veronica, Desiree and Abigail Gutierrez, two nephews Josh Calzada and Michael Gutierrez, one great-niece Isabella Alvarez.

They all loved Tim more than all the stars in the sky. Tim’s childhood was one of great treasured moments which he shared with his many cousins from the Trujillo and Absher families. His Aunt Sally and Uncle James Absher were like second parents to him and he loved them as such, they are amongst his survived loved ones.

Aunts and Uncles surviving him also are Benny and Natalia Trujillo of Las Cruces, Sammy and Lucy Trujillo of Alamogordo, NM and Jesse Trujillo of Kansas City, they too were like mom’s and dad’s to him. Tim is also survived by his large and ever growing family of in-laws Salvador, Manuel, Martin, Leon, Jimmy (Cindy) and Johnny (Maria) Rubio all of Las Cruces. Elia Gonzalez (Sal) of Las Vegas, Nevada, Tina Casares (Albert) Marie Hermosillo (Raul) and Betty Clark of Las Cruces and Narda of Kileen, Tx.

Many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews who loved him like he was born into the family. He was preceded in death by his father Antonio Gutierrez Jr. in 1989, maternal grandparents Johnny Trujillo in 1987, Margaret Apodaca in 2009, and Ylario Apodaca in 1997. Paternal grandmother Juanita Marrufo Gutierrez.

Funeral Services will be held at Getz Funeral Home 1410 East Bowman on May 3, 2018 at 9 a.m. with Pastor Florencio Vigil officiating. Burial of cremains will take place at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Getz Funeral Homes, Las Cruces, New Mexico.

The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Guido Leon and his staff , MMC Cardiac Rehab and MMC Coumadin Clinic for their help in keeping Tim’s ticker going strong. Many thanks going out to University of Utah Medical Center with special mention to LVAD staff.
