Obituary for Maria De La Torre (Lopez) Maria L. De La Torre, 81, of Las Cruces, New Mexico Maria L. De La Torre, 81, of Las Cruces, New Mexico, joined her husband in eternal life on Saturday, September 22, 2018. She was born on August 12, 1937 in Mesquitic, Jalisco, Mexico, to Pedro Lopez and Severa Nuñez. Maria married her one true love, Julio De La Torre, on May 14, 1951 in Mesquitic, Jalisco, Mexico where they owned a large family ranch and she worked alongside her husband.
She was a devoted wife of 65 years, loving mother, adoring grandmother, and beautiful human being. She honored the Virgen de Guadalupe and belonged to the order of St. Francis of Assisi. Maria is survived by her eight children and their spouses—Maria P. & Cecil Ray Kelley of Midland, Texas; Maria A. & Robert Lopez of Doña Ana; Julio & Alicia De La Torre of Las Cruces; Jose & Linda De La Torre of Las Cruces; Rosa M. & William J. Burmeister of Las Cruces; Miguel Angel & Susana Guadalupe De La Torre of Deming; Gregorio De La Torre and Christina Serna of Las Cruces; John De La Torre of Doña Ana.
; and Pamela De La Torre of Las Cruces. Maria’s legacy will continue with her 16 grandchildren—Cecil Ray Kelley, Jr., Roberto Lee Lopez, Jr., Angela Maria Brown, Marco Antonio De La Torre Lopez, Jessica Angelic De La Torre, Jay Alexander De La Torre, Erika Nicole De La Torre, Patrick Ondelacy, Rhiannon Petersen, Greg De La Torre, Estevan De La Torre, Jonathan Michael De La Torre, Evan Nicholas De La Torre, Christopher Serna, Amanda Serna, and Cynthia Serna. And her 18 great grandchildren—Britney Madison, Sean Madison, Matthew Madison, Austin Issac Kelley, Owen Floyd Kelley, Carter James Kelley, Damien Lopez Brown, Danielle Maria Brown, Roberto Gabriel Lopez, Evangelina Grace Lopez, Nyellie Nevaeh De La Torre, Aydan Issak De La Torre, Kyleigh Coleman, Bailey Ferguson, Jameson Ferguson, Kendra Petersen, Nathan Ondelacy, and Saidi Serna.
The De La Torre family invites all of their relatives and friends to join them for a viewing from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. followed by a rosary to honor their mother on Thursday, September 27, 2018, at the Getz Funeral Home. The memorial mass and burial will be held on Friday, September 28, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Genevieve Roman Catholic Church. Pallbearers will be Miguel Angel De La Torre, Gregorio De La Torre, John De La Torre, Marco Antonio De La Torre Lopez, Jay Alexander De La Torre, and Jonathan Michael De La Torre.
Honorary pallbearers are Roberto Lee Lopez Jr., Cecil Ray Kelley, Jr., and Rosa De La Torre-Lopez- Burmeister. A post funeral reception will follow immediately at 5518 Red Fox Road, Las Cruces, New Mexico. The family would like to thank the staff at Fess Family Healthcare, Southwest Cardiovascular Center, Southwest Health Services, Memorial Medical Center, and Ambercare for the care they provided to their beloved mother.
Maria L. De La Torre’s love, tenderness, compassion, generosity, humbleness, and wisdom will have no end.
