Doris E. Whitson, 91 of Gray passed away on Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at Lakebridge Nursing Home. Born in Bakersville, North Carolina, she is the daughter of the late William and Bertie Honeycutt. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by: her husband, Nathan Garland Whitson; daughter, Dorothy W. Wheelock; and siblings, Madeline Marshall, Cleo Renfro, and William G. Honeycutt.

Doris graduated from Tipton Hill High School. During World War II she was a “Rosie the Riveter” working in plants and factories. She was a member of Eastern Star.

A servant at her core, she had a generous heart for other people and was hospitable by nature. She loved Jesus her Lord and used her talents of cooking and gardening to share his love. She was a member of Buffalo Ridge Baptist Church and attended all church services when health allowed.

Those left to cherish Doris’ memory include: children, Donna Whitson Guinn and Dale Eugene Whitson (Kathy); grandchildren, Krista Guinn Orr (Greg), Jonathan Craig Falls (Stacie), and Jason Falls (Adriana); great-grandchildren, Conor and Jacob Orr, Cade, Catherine, Aiden, Riley, Kyler, and Logan Falls; was loved by many nieces and nephews; and sisters-in-law, Beulah Whitson, Matha Gscwind and family, Ora Barger and family, Edna Crawford and family and brother-in-law, Bill Whitson and family all of who she loved like siblings, as they did her. The family would like to extend a thank you to special friend and caregiver, Darlene Garland. The family will gather to greet friends in the Sunrise Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Services, Johnson City on Friday, January 25, 2019 from 12:00 pm until a celebration of Doris’ life beginning at 1:30 pm.

A graveside service will follow at Highland Church Cemetery in Boones Creek. Active pallbearers are Rod Crawford, Greg Orr, Jason Falls, Tony McFaddin, Craig Falls, Conor Orr, Jacob Orr, and Eddie Whitson. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery by 2:50 pm.
