Doris Jean Atkinson Hadley February 9, 1946 – February 21, 2019 Doris Jean Atkinson Hadley passed away Thursday, February 21, 2019 at 5:09pm at St. Marks Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah from complications related to a minor stroke. Friends and family may gather at a viewing held on Friday, March 1, 2019 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Lindquist Mortuary located at 727 North 400 East, Bountiful, Utah. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 2nd, 2019 starting at 11:00am at the Centerville Canyon View LDS Chapel located at 2110 North Main Street, Centerville, Utah.
Interment will follow at the Centerville City Cemetery located at 650 East 400 South, Centerville, Utah. A viewing will also be held at the Centerville Canyon View LDS Chapel from 9:30am to 10:30am preceding the funeral. Doris was born February 9, 1946 in Jersey City, New Jersey to Robert Walter Atkinson and Jean Caroline Zambrano.
She attended Elmont Memorial High School in Long Island, New York and obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in English from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. She married Michael S. Hadley on July 6, 1979 in the Salt Lake Temple. Michael and Doris moved to Centerville, Utah in September 1979.
Doris and Michael have a family of 3 children and 7 grandchildren most of whom call her “Grandma Doris” (pronounced Daris). All of her children are graduates of Brigham Young University and all are involved in music and the arts. Doris taught English in the Davis County School District for 30 years and retired in 2006.
She is beloved by thousands of students who she would often keep in touch with at different times in her life. Doris had many involvements in the community; she served as president of the Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority, Book Club, Ward Choir, and her favorite, tennis! She played tennis several times a week and was at the best of her game this past month according to friends.
She was unbeatable just a day before her passing. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully in many various callings. Doris was baptized October 26, 1968 and recently celebrated her 50th anniversary in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Doris had a love for music and often filled the home with hymns on the piano. She often conducted the music during meetings of the Church. Doris is survived by her husband of 39 years Michael S. Hadley; and their family: Michael R. Hadley, Allison (Hyrum) Zeyer, and Deborah (Mark) Thompson; brother Richard (Yolanda) Atkinson; nephews: Justin (Jeni) Atkinson and Ryan (Marcella) Atkinson.
The family would also like to extend their thanks to the emergency room staff at Lakeview Hospital in Bountiful, Utah and the nurses and doctors at St.Marks Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah for their kind and compassionate care.
