Dorothy Ann Elizabeth (Goeden) Richard, 87, of West Springfield, passed away on Tuesday, March 5, 2019, at the Soldiers’ Home in Holyoke, with her family by her side. She was born to the late Frances and Frank Goeden, February 3, 1932 in Crofton, Nebraska. Dorothy graduated from Yankton High School in Yankton, South Dakota in 1949, and served as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force.

Dorothy married the late Roland H. Richard in 1955, residing in Westfield for 10 years before relocating to West Springfield. Dorothy is survived by six children: Jerome Richard, of West Springfield; Randy Richard, of Westfield; Michele Richard and her husband Ibrahim, of South Hadley; Linda Amrich, of Longmeadow; Mark Richard, of Concord; and Laura Casale and her husband Enio, of Brookfield, WI. She is also survived by her four granddaughters: Catherine Amrich, Mariam Ibrahim, Cristina and Angelina Casale.

Dorothy was predeceased by her loving husband in 1987. She is predeceased by siblings Jerome Goeden, Ethel Havermann; and is survived by siblings Gerard Goeden, Marvin Goeden, Duane Goeden, Earl Goeden, Charlotte Kirkitelos, Elaine Corey and Leonette Murray. Dorothy grew up on the family farm in Nebraska, the sixth child of ten.

During her active duty in the United States Air Force, she travelled throughout Europe and North Africa. She was stationed in Washington D.C. and worked at the Pentagon prior to meeting her husband at Westover Air Force Base. Dorothy loved to travel and had an adventurous spirit.

Her hard work ethic; love for country music, gardening, and baking; as well as her devotion to her faith are just some of the gifts she has passed onto her family. She served as Treasurer of the West Springfield Veterans Council where she was awarded Veteran Woman of the Year in 2005. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, March 12, 2019 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the TOOMEY-O’BRIEN FUNERAL HOME 1043 Westfield St West Springfield.

On Wednesday, March 13, 2019 the church service will be held at 11:30 AM at St. Thomas the Apostle Parish in West Springfield. The burial will take place at 1:00 PM at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the American Parkinson Disease Association or the Alzheimer’s Association.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the Soldiers’ Home in Holyoke for their loving care.
