Granny, as she was known to her family and community, lived a long and joyful life. Granny nourished the people around her with her love and faith. She was an active member of First Baptist Church in Premont, TX until she became ill and was no longer able to attend.

She truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures; her weekly visit to the beauty shop, crafting with her daughters and granddaughters, supporting the home team from the stands of many football and basketball games and her love for babysitting. Granny loved all children and devoted her time to babysitting many children in the community, including her grandchildren. She was the back bone of her family and loved any chance to spend time with them.

Holidays in Granny’s home were always a special time for her family. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. She is preceded in death by her parents and husband; a son, Tommy Powell and son-in- law, Richard Shaw.

She is survived by two daughters, Deanne Shaw and Donita Powell of Premont, TX, two sons, Terry (Fay) Powell of Orange, TX and Todd (Teresa) Powell of Abilene, TX; seven grandchildren; Amy (Josh) Atkins, Corpus Christi TX; Ashley (Sam Atkins) Shaw, Schertz, TX; Dustin (Jamie) Powell, Salt Lake City, UT; Trevor (Cindy) Powell, Galveston, TX; Nathan Powell and Nick Powell, Premont, TX; Kendall Forbes, Austin, TX; Five great-grandchildren, Isaak Shaw, Addyson Atkins, Greysen Powell, Donovan Powell and Ronan Powell; one sister, Barbara Stratton of Beaumont, TX; one brother Billy (Barbara) LeMare of Vidor, TX; numerous nieces and nephews and her community. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Nurses on Wheels for their care and support they provided in recent months. The family would also like to thank Julia Allen and Mari Salas for the love and care they provided to Granny over the last few years.
