Dorothy passed away peacefully into her eternal reward with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on May 25, 2018, at Hiland Cottage, in Petoskey, Michigan. Dorothy Louise was 73 years young, the third born of four siblings to James J. and Ann Stella (Solarz) Middleton on January 25, 1945, in Flint, Michigan. She attended and graduated from Holy Redeemer Catholic School in 1963.

Having grown up in the country and being an adventurer, she was eager to explore the world. She enlisted into the Armed Services, joining the United States Navy in which she served three years at San Diego Naval Hospital, California, receiving an Honorable Discharge in 1967. Returning home, Dorothy, enrolled at Northern Michigan College, Marquette, Michigan to pursue a career in Science obtaining her Bachelor of Science Degree (Biology).

Soon thereafter, began her thirty three year career with General Motors in Flint. Once retired, she worked for the United States Post Office as a mail carrier for several years. Accomplishing her last venture in education, she obtained a certification in Cosmetology, and Barbering at Mott Community College, Flint.

This certification/ license enabled her to minister to friends, family, strangers everywhere; always promoting self grooming, and spiritual / emotional well being—hope. Throughout Sis’ life, she had a love and caring for family/ friends, standing up on behalf of those who could not fight for themselves, and serving those in need. This defined her character– her legacy.

Her continued support of missionary causes throughout the World and in her community defined her life role in protecting the unborn child, rescuing abandoned animals, and most importantly– serving her fellow men and women. Leisure time was filled with many ambitions. Music was a love of Dorothy’s.

Her musical journey began thirty plus years ago with singing lessons. Next, Sis studied piano, then violin- which became her favorite. Though discouraged many times, she never quit seeking ‘perfection’ in her musical endeavors.

Studying God’s Word was a usual daily exercise, along with walking. She treasured trail biking with friends, navigating down Northern Michigan Rivers, resting and boating on Burt Lake, traveling, and attending family/friend celebrations. Although tending her farm animals, gardening and canning, flower beds completed her daily chores, it was having friends and family over for an old fashion, “home cooked ‘Matka’ recipe” meal that was real joy for Sis.

As we sat preparing Sis’ life story, she edited and corrected this paper rendition of much living. “Wow! I didn’t realize all I accomplished!

” “Me, either”. God is good! We hugged and cried that evening, April 4, 2018.

Surviving Dorothy Louise is her brother, James Middleton (Debbie) of Flint; sister, Phyllis Kristin (Richard) of Indian River, Sister, Carolyn Green of Clio. She leaves many nieces and nephews; also, special friends: Joy Branda, Anne Howe, Jerry Bell, Nancy Alexander, Gilda Tucker, and Sue Doyle. In closing, we extend much appreciation and thank you to all that helped with the care of the farm animals in Dorothy’s absences.
