Funeral services for Dorothy M. Monson, 93, of Norfolk will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, May 24, 2018, at Christ The Servant Lutheran Church, Norfolk: Reverend Steve Lund will officiate. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery, Norfolk. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. at Home for Funerals, Norfolk, Nebraska.

Dorothy died Thursday, May 17, 2018 at Heritage of Bel Air. She was born March 21, 1925 to Arnold and Selma (Pribnow) Wegener at Norfolk, NE. She was baptized April 26, 1925 at Christ Lutheran Church in Norfolk and was confirmed there June 5, 1938.

She attended grade school in District 81 in Stanton County and Christ Lutheran School in Norfolk. She graduated from Norfolk Senior High School in 1942. She graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1946 with majors in Dietetics and Institution Management with membership in Omicron Nu and Phi U honorary societies.

She became a Registered Dietitian. On June 18, 1946 she married Donald E. Monson from Clay Center, NE at Christ Lutheran Church in Norfolk following his discharge from the Coast Guard in World War II. She worked as assistant dietitian at Miller and Paine in Lincoln, NE.

until Don finished his schooling at the University which had been interrupted during the war. They moved to Osceola, NE where Don was teacher in the Osceola School System. In 1950 they moved to Norfolk, NE.

She became a full-time mother for a daughter, son, and twin daughters until 1959. From 1959 — 1989 she worked as a Registered Dietitian at Lutheran Community Hospital. She helped organize the dietary department when the hospital was built.

Dorothy and Don were charter members of Our Savior Lutheran. She taught Sunday School, was on one of the building committees, a member of LWML, Tabitha, and Sages, and a member of Lutheran Layman’s League. She belonged to the UN Alumni Association and a Genealogy Club.

She is survived by her children Sharon (Dave) Butts of Lincoln, Steven (Jan) Monson of Austin TX, Linda Cyboron of Norfolk, and Louise (Charles) Skoglund of Norfolk, nine grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, a sister and spouse Myrna and Bob Kirkland and a sister in law Mary Wegener, and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Don, her parents Arnold and Selma Wegener, her brother Clifford, sister and spouse Arlene and Wayne McCabe, son in law Dean Cyboron, and Great grandson Benjamin Monson. Memorials are suggested to the Lutheran Hour, the Kidney Foundation or American Diabetes Foundation for research.
