Obituary Notice Dorothy C. Reed Dorothy Carolyn Reed, 84, of Medicine Lodge, KS, died Wednesday, May 22, 2019 at Medicine Lodge Memorial Hospital. She was born on May 13, 1935 in Medicine Lodge, KS, the daughter of Burl Gaunt and Mary Elizabeth (Jester) Gaunt. On August 29, 1954, she married Dwight Reed in Medicine Lodge, KS.

He survives. Dorothy was a bookkeeper for the Medicine Lodge Hospital and the Rural Water District. She was a member of the First Christian Church, Medicine Lodge, KS.

Dorothy was a lifelong Barber County resident, moving from the Mingona area into Medicine Lodge, in 1945. She worked as a volunteer throughout her life. Dorothy was a board member of the Carrie Nation Home for 20 years, serving 15 years as President.

During her tenure as president, she prepared and presented speeches educating audiences about Carrie Nation. Dorothy also had a number of articles published in national publications promoting the Carrie Nation Home. She was a Sunday school teacher at the First Baptist Church of Sharon for 30 years where she was also active in Church mission projects.

Dorothy served as a 4-H leader and was an active member of the Monday Afternoon Club for decades. Surviving in addition to her husband Dwight Reed of Medicine Lodge, KS, are two daughters, Nancy (Philip) Ketchum of Wichita, KS and Julie (Joseph) Herrmann of Overland Park, KS; Four grandchildren, Michelle Alves, Derek (Line Vargas Collado) Stringer, Jennifer Herrmann, and Jana Herrmann; Three great-grandchildren, Siena Alves, Isla Alves, and Arabela Stringer Collado. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 25, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Christian Church, Medicine Lodge, KS with Pastor Tom Walters officiating.

Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery, Medicine Lodge, KS Memorials may be made to the Lincoln Library, the Carrie Nation Home/Stockade Museum or First Christian Church in care of Larrison Funeral Home, 120 E.
