Douglas Stocks, 90 entered into eternal peace on Saturday, July 21, 2018. Douglas was born to the late Gladys Bullock Stocks and Walter Stocks on October 8, 1927. He attended Ayden High School and graduated in 1948, lettering in Football and receiving the Citizenship Award of his graduating class.
After graduating from High School, he began employment at First National Bank in Ayden. In October 1950 he was drafted in the US Army and served in Indianapolis, Indiana, Aleutian Islands, Alaska and Tokyo, Japan. He was discharged as a Master Sargent over four Batteries Artillery from the Korean War in August 1952.
After being discharged from the US Army in 1952, Doug began farming with his father on the family farm. He married the love of his life, Beulah Stocks in 1953 and were married 60 years. He was employed with E. I. Dupont, Kinston, NC.
Doug retired from Dupont in 1968 and then began his own business (The Country Store) and later the (Seafood Market) in Ayden. Doug retired and sold his business but continued his passion to till in the soil on his farm growing vegetables and acres of collards. His passion of farming and determination inspired him to plant his garden most recently with the assistance of family and friends.
Doug was a faithful member and supporter of the First Baptist Church in Ayden. He had a love of music and singing and has been an active choir member until his most recent illness. Doug is preceded in death by one sister, Edna Earl McLawhorn and two brothers, Billy Stocks and Dallas Stocks.
His survivors include his three daughters, Patricia S. Pollard of Washington, Jeannie S. Muse and husband Max of Carthage and Janet S. Beacham and husband Jimmy of New Bern and his only grandchild, Emily Stocks Muse of Carthage. He is also survived by his sister Carolyn Page Stocks. Friends and family are invited to attend the visitation at Farmer Funeral Home Tuesday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and the funeral service at First Baptist Church Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Ayden Cemetery.
