Obituary for Dr. Corbin Isaac Miles, Jr Dr. Corbin Isaac Miles, Jr., 78, of Summerville, husband of Pamela Janet Miles, passed away Saturday, June 2, 2018 at Life Care Center of Charleston. Family and friends are invited to attend Corbin’s visitation on Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at Old Fort Baptist Church, 10505 Dorchester Road, Summerville, from 1 to 2 o’clock followed by his funeral service at 2 o’clock at Old Fort Baptist Church.
A funeral service and burial will be held at a later date in Northern Virginia. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Old Fort Community Impact for Christ (CIFC) mission at www. oldfortbaptist.org/giving or to the Alzheimer’s Association at www.
alz.org Corbin was born February 5, 1940 in Detroit, MI, son of the late Corbin I. Miles, Sr. and Palma Chirillo Miles. Although he couldn’t count or spell more than three letter words by the third grade, he went on to receive undergraduate degrees in math, chemistry and physics, and his Masters and Ph.D. in chemistry from Wayne State University. He worked his entire career at the Food and Drug Administration in Missouri, Minnesota, Michigan and Washington, DC.
Corbin retired from the FDA in 1995 after a very distinguished career. He was also very active in church work, Boy Scouts, and other volunteer jobs. He was a deacon at church and was in charge of the mission work of the church for many years.
He went on evangelistic missions to Venezuela, Panama, Russia and spent a year on mission in Tanzania East Africa with Pam, going on many adventures together. Survivors including: wife Pamela of 57 years of marriage; four children: Todd (Dawn) of Purcellville, VA, son Chris (Susan) of Fairfax, VA, daughter Lindsay Lewis (Rocky) of Summerville, SC and son Corbin Neal (Stacy) of Paisley, Scotland; nine grandchildren: Kelsey Lewis of Atlanta, GA, Keri Sandefur (Mike) of Summerville, SC, Trey Lewis (Rachel) of Raleigh, NC, Patrick Miles (Meghan) of North Charleston, SC, Shannon Miles of North Charleston, Corbin Neal Miles, Jr., Aidan Miles, Boston Miles and Rowan Miles all of Paisley Scotland; one great grandson: Abraham Lewis of Raleigh, NC. Also Father Richard Miles (brother) of Kenner, LA, Jenny Botz (sister) of Saugatuck, MI and Donald Miles (brother) of Eugene, OR.
