Duane B. Montgomery October 15, 1930 – January 29, 2019 Duane B. Montgomery passed away on Tuesday January 29th of natural causes at the age of 88. He is survived by his wife, Donna of over 69 years. They were high school sweethearts and were married in the Salt Lake City Temple on October 5, 1949.

Duane was born on October 15, 1930 in a Syracuse, Utah home and raised on a farm in West Point, Utah. He graduated from Davis High School in 1948. Duane lived most of his adult life in Roy, Utah.

A very hard worker, he owned and operated Duane’s Texaco in Roy since 1958 continuing for more than 35 years until his retirement at 65. He was a trusted businessman in the community known and loved by many. He was honored as the Roy Outstanding Citizen in 1996 in conjunction with the city’s 50th anniversary, and served as the Grand Marshall of the Roy Day’s Parade.

Duane was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather leaving a legacy of love and family above all else. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served in several positions including the Elder’s Quorum Presidency. As a young man, he excelled in baseball playing on several metropolitan teams, and eventually on to a semi-pro baseball team of that era.

He earned the nickname ‘Dizz’ in reference to Dizzy Dean who was a well-known professional baseball player in the 1930’s. He also played on church basketball and softball teams. He was an avid sportsman, and loved hunting and fishing.

He always looked forward to hunting trips, enjoyed the fall mountains and times spent there with his sons. Duane and Donna’s favorite vacations included lots of trips to Yellowstone, Flaming Gorge and Bear Lake with family. Duane had a lifelong interest in sports.

He coached several church basketball and softball teams. Duane passionately followed the Denver Bronco’s and Utah Jazz watching most all of their games. He attended almost every home Weber State football game with family well into his 80’s until he was physically unable to be there in person.

Preceded in death by his brother Bob, sister Carol Sessions, and grandchild Jake King. Duane is survived by his loving wife Donna, sister LaRae Struhs (Dan), sister in-law DeeAnna, son Rick (Cindy), daughter Marsha King (Ron), son Mike (Cyndi) along with 9 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. A graveside service will he held on Saturday February 2nd, at 12:30 pm at the Roy City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family asked for donations to a charity of your choice in Duane’s honor.
