Thomas Edward Mather returned to his Father in Heaven on October 5, 2018, at age 81. He passed away peacefully at his home in Preston, ID surrounded by his family, following a brief battle with congestive heart failure. He was a devoted husband, a loving father of 8 children, 21 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren.

Eddie was born November 20, 1936, in Logan, Utah to Thomas and Anna Mather, the oldest of three children. Eddie grew up in Smithfield and graduated from North Cache High. From his first marriage to Carlene Sparrow (they later divorced), Eddie was blessed to become a proud father to three beautiful children Brett, Troy, and Belle.

Eddie met the love of his life at a church dance. A cute little redhead named Patricia Morgan, who he would spend the next 50 years with. They raised five children (Blake, Brady, Nikki, Kristy, and Kelly) together in Preston.

Eddie spent 42 years working for Utah Power and Light, starting out as a lineman and working his way up to a foreman. He loved to ski and drove the ski bus for many years from Preston to Beaver Mountain. Eddie loved to spend time outdoors, whether it was on his bicycle, motorbike, four wheeler, scuba diving, hunting, playing golf or camping with his family.

He also loved to bowl and even worked at the bowling alley in Preston. But more than anything he loved to work out in his garden and was known for keeping it weed free. He loved sharing his produce with family and neighbors.

He loved the gospel and was proud to be a 100% home teacher! He enjoyed studying and discussing his love of his Savior and his membership in the Church with anyone he came into contact with. One of the highlights of his life was serving two missions with his sweetheart at Martin’s Cove.

One of his favorite callings was working with his precious friends at the Institute. His most prized possession was his family and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sons Brett and Troy.

Eddie is survived by his wife Pat, and his children Blake (Elisa), Belle (Jeff), Brady (Lora), Nikki (Andrew), Kristy (Ryan), Kelly (Krystal) and 21 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren along with his siblings Bill Mather and Katherine Christiansen. Funeral services will be held Friday, October 12, 2018 at 12:00 noon in the Preston 8th Ward Chapel, 213 South 200 East in Preston.
