Bennettsville, SC Mr. Edward “Butch” Clayton Liles passed away Sunday, March 17, 2019 at his residence after a brief illness. He was 76 years old. Born December 17, 1942 in Utica, New York, he was a son of the late Lewis Clayton Liles and Mary Leviner Liles White.

He was a member of Christian Fellowship Church in Bennettsville. Mr. Liles enjoyed hunting, sports, and was a member of the Masons. He began his career in law enforcement with the City of Bennettsville, serving as a city police officer from 1962-1969, followed by 32 years of dedicated service to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

After retiring as Sergeant from the Highway Patrol in 1995 he worked for a number of years with Pepsi Cola of Bennettsville as a second shift warehouse supervisor. Mr. Liles leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of 57 years; Mary Liles of the home; sons, Edward “Eddie” Clayton Liles of Bennettsville and Robert Dale “Robbie” Liles of McBee; daughter, Mary “Beth” Elizabeth Tolar (William) of Irmo; sisters, Effie Leviner Higginbotham (Floyd) and Vernie Elliot; 10 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents listed above; brother, Robert Gerald Liles; sister, Mary Frances Liles; and great grandson, Ace Cribb.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, March 19, 2019 at Christian Fellowship Church, officiated by Rev. Julius Bunch, with burial to follow in Sunset Memorial Park. A visitation will be held from 1- 2:45 pm just prior to the service at the church.

Memorials are suggested to: Embrace Hospice, 116 N. Liberty Street, Bennettsville, SC 29512. The family would like to extend their eternal gratefulness to the staff at Embrace Hospice; Demarcus Benjamin, Micky Leviner, Shirley Erwin, Gary Day, and Donna Taylor, who loved and cared for Mr. Liles as if he was a member of their family. They also want to say a special thank you to his FAVORITE doctor, Jadene Lowry, MD.
