Werner, 90, of Kenosha, passed away peacefully, Thursday, December 27, 2018 at Froedtert South St. Catherine’s Medical Center. He was born on October 13, 1928 to the late Alex N. and Ann E. (Theimer) Werner in Kenosha. He attended St. George Parochial School and graduated from Kenosha High School in 1946.

He also attended Milwaukee School of Engineering, Northwestern University and the University of Wisconsin Parkside. He enlisted in the US Coast Guard on February 7, 1947 and was honorably discharged as an Electrician’s Mate Second Class in 1950. His service included the CGC UNALGA, Attu Loran Station and the CGC KLAMATH.

In 1962 he enlisted in the US Coast Guard Reserve and retired as a Lieutenant Commander. He was awarded the Coast Guard Achievement Medal for his service. Edward retired from Walker Manufacturing Company in 1989.

Edward was a member of the Reserve Officers Association, Danish Brotherhood, Kenosha County Historical Society, US Lighthouse Society, was a Past Commander of the Navy Club Ship #40, a Past Commodore and Life Member of the Kenosha Yacht Club and Past Chairman of the Kenosha Access Community Television Committee. A local historian, he was associated with the restoration and preservation of Kenosha’s 1866 Southport Light Station and produced a television documentary of Kenosha history. Edward was an Eagle Scout and attained the highest award in Sea Scouting, the Quartermaster Medal.

Edward is survived by his sons Randy (Linda) Grundy of Johnsburg, IL and Scott (Becky) Grundy of Pleasant Prairie, his grandchildren Ashley (Danny) Gallina, Jordan Grundy, Jerad Grundy, Avery Grundy, Arden Grundy, Kayla Grundy and Kyler Grundy, his great grandchildren Mason, Hawk, Tallulah and Priscilla, his four nieces and his one nephew. He is preceded in death by his Father, Mother, former wife Ann (Grundy) Werner, a brother Jack Werner and a sister Jean Terrien. Funeral Services for Edward will be held on Monday, January 7th at 5:00 p.m. at the Hansen-Lendman Funeral Home.

Full Military Honors will follow. Visitation will be held on Monday from 3:00 p.m. until the time of service. Donations to the Kenosha History Center (www.
