Obituary for Edward Joseph “Pat” McGuigan Jr. Beloved husband, devoted father and friend of many, Edward Joseph “Pat” McGuigan, Jr., age 72 passed away in Marshall, Texas on Friday, December 28, 2018. He was born in Shreveport, Louisiana to Edward Joseph and Laura (Rogers) McGuigan on August 8, 1946. Pat graduated from Marshall High School with the Class of 1965 and attended Panola College.

He worked many wonderful years as a Marketing Inspector for area sale barns for Texas Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association. Pat was a well-known and well respected independent cattle man, contracting and producing team ropings, open rodeos and bull riding events for many years in Marshall, Texas and Stonewall, Louisiana. He always said and believed “When you love what you do…you never work a day in your life”.

Pat is survived by the love of his life, his wife, Nellie Claire (Futrell) McGuigan and their daughter, whom he adored, Melanie McGuigan and many other extended family members. He is preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Dorothy McGuigan Collier. He will be deeply missed by all who were blessed by his friendship.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 30, 2018 from 4-6pm at Meadowbrook Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be held at 10:00am, Monday, December 31, 2018 at Meadowbrook Funeral Home with Jason Taylor and Matt Futrell officiating. Interment will be in Colonial Gardens Cemetery following the funeral service.

Pallbearers will be John “Skeeter” Hightower, Rusty Coleman, Carlos Salazar, Brian Bradbury, Dusty Roach, Cody Jeton and Rene Garcia. Honorary Pallbearers will be his cowboy friends. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting memorials be made in Pat’s name to a favorite charity of your choice.
