Obituary for Edwin L. Gandron MECHANICVILLE – Edwin L. Gandron, 88, of River Road, Hemstreet Park, died Saturday, Dec. 15th at home, in the loving company of his family. Born in Whitehall, Apr 15, 1930, son of the late Leon and Abdella Gooley Gandron, Ed was a 1948 graduate of Mechanicville High School.
A Korean War Era veteran, Ed served with the US Army from 1952-54, serving in Alaska. A receiver/checker for the former Grand Union Warehouse for 39 years, retiring in 1995, and previously with the D & H Railroad for 9 years. A fisherman for most of his life, he also enjoyed woodworking, traveling, taking the family camping summers to Lewey Lake, and being recognized as Nancy’s husband.
Recently, Ed enjoyed Wednesday lunches at the Ugly Rooster with family. An American Legion Post 91 member for 33 years, and former assistant Boy Scout Troop 39 leader for number of years. Ed and his wife were quite a pair of fun loving, community spirited couple, who enjoyed the company of their family and friends.
A communicant of All Saints on the Hudson Church, Mechanicville. Ed was predeceased by his wife of 60 years Nancy Pitcheralle Gandron in 2012 and son Philip Gandron in 2005, a sister Howardine Campbell and brother Martin Gandron. Survivors include his 6 children: Paula (Larry) Olsen of Cary N.C., Larry Gandron of Malta, David (Yvonne) Gandron of Concord, N.C., Leon (Deborah) Gandron and Cindy (Donald) Horn both of Mechanicville and Mary Anne (Michael) Griffen of Ballston Spa, along with 15 grand and 8 great grandkids and loving canine companion Cinnamon.
Ed’s family thanks Dr. Balsamo and staff and Hospice for the wonderful care of Dad. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at AM at All Saints on the Hudson Church, No. Main St., followed by burial with military honors at St. Pauls Cemetery.
Calling hours on Thursday from 4 – 7 PM at the DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 So. Main St., Mechanicville. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to either American Diabetes Assoc.
