Obituary of Eileen Widen Eileen Elizabeth Widen, 74, of Tompkins Rd. Jamestown, passed away at the Blair Hospice Residence in Warren, PA on February 19, 2019 after a brief, but courageous battle with brain cancer. Eileen was born March 15, 1944 in Peekskill, NY to John and Mary Walsh Quinn.

She was a 1961 graduate of Ladycliff Academy in Peekskill and a 1965 graduate of Ladycliff College in Highland Falls, NY. After graduation from college, Eileen taught two years at Ladycliff Academy and then moved on to work at the Hudson Institute in Ossining, NY. Eileen received a Master’s Degree in Library Science from the University of Buffalo in 1992.

She found her calling as a Reference Librarian at Jamestown Community College where she worked for twenty years. Eileen was married to Bruce G. Widen on July 6, 1968. Eileen is survived by her husband of fifty years, and three sons; Curtis (Kerry) Widen, Bradley (Julie) Widen and Greg Widen all of Jamestown.

She is furthered survived by four grandchildren; Carrson, Bruce Jr., Madelyn and Benjamin Widen all of Jamestown. She also leaves behind her beloved cousins and caregivers; Joan Ericsson, Lee Strang and Ann Walsh. She was predeceased by her parents and a brother, John J. Quinn, Jr. Eileen loved her work at JCC and in later years was acknowledged by many as helping them through their college experience.

However, her one true love was her husband, her children and grandchildren whom she doted on shamelessly. Eileen possessed a keen and inquiring mind. She enjoyed a good book, New York Times Crossword Puzzles and discussions on politics and world affairs.

Throughout her life she was the epitome of kindness and grace. Eileen was an active member of Holy Apostles Roman Catholic Church in Jamestown and served as a Eucharistic Minister for the church. She was a member and vice-regent of the St. Gertrude chapter of the Catholic Daughters of America, as well as, a member of the Marvin House, Little Theater and Vikings Lodge.

The family will receive friends from 2 – 4 p.m. and 7 – 9 p.m. on Friday, February 22, 2019 at the Falconer Funeral Home. The Catholic Daughters Court St. Gertrude # 92 will recite the Holy Rosary at 1:30 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. A Christian Wake service will be held at 1:45 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.

A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. Dennis Mende at 10 a.m. Saturday, February 23, 2019 at St. Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Church with burial to follow in Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in Eileen’s memory to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, P.O. Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101-9929, or the Blair Hospice Residence, 301 Quaker Hill Rd.
