Obituary for Elaine Taylor Elaine Taylor, 90, of Chariton passed away June 20, 2018 at the Legacy Lodge in Chariton. Family will receive friends on Monday, June 25th from 10:30 until 11:30 a.m. at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Chariton. A graveside service will be held following the visitation at the Chariton Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Legacy Lodge. Elaine was born December 22, 1927 in Chariton, Iowa, the second of four children to William and Genieve (Peterson) Kendall. She grew up in Chariton attending Chariton Schools until taking a job in Des Moines as a telephone operator.

Elaine worked as a theater usher when she was young and later in life worked at Stone Seed Store and Mod-O-Day. After coming back to Chariton, she met Harold “Hoot” Taylor and married January 26, 1946. They were blessed with two children: Bruce and Becky.

Elaine and Hoot enjoyed watching the Chicago Cubs and attending spring training in Arizona. They also liked to fish, dance, play pinochle, and canasta with friends. After Hoot’s death she still went to dances.

She loved dancing in her cowboy boots. Crocheting was also a passion for many years, along with playing bingo, and adult coloring books. She traveled the world enjoying places such as Hong Kong and Paris.

Elaine was a meticulous housekeeper, a great cook, and baker. She was a 50-year member of the Rebekah Lodge. Terry Branstad presented Elaine the Governor’s Volunteer Award in 1998.

Preceding her in death was her husband, Harold “Hoot” Taylor; parents: William and Genieve Kendall; sister, Betty Cain; and brother-in-law, Walton Cain. Surviving are her son, Bruce (Sheryl) Taylor of Chariton; daughter, Becky (Denny) Swarthout of Salem, IA; sister, Mickey (Larry) Davis; brother, Bill (Janet) Kendall of Kissimmee, FL; grandchildren, Derek (Amy) Swarthout, Craig Swarthout, Robin (David) Keeton, Aaron (Jacci) Taylor; eight great grandchildren; and many relatives and friends.
