Elizabeth Cavanagh Karsa, June 28, 1934 — July 16, 2018

Obituary for Elizabeth Cavanagh Karsa Elizabeth was born and raised in Windsor Terrace, Brooklyn and attended Holy Name Grammar School & Bishop McDonnell HS. After attaining her Master’s Degree in Education at New York University she began her teaching career. She joined the Home Economics Department at JHS 201 in Dyker Heights, Brooklyn and retired from that position after 29 years.

While a full time teacher she also maintained a full time position in the Hotel Industry working in the Food & Beverage Department at the Vista Hotel at the World Trade Center. With the events of 2001 and the destruction of the hotel she chose to retire. She then joined her daughter in the family insurance business and remained there until the time of her death.

She loved travel, fine food, the theatre, books, poetry all of which she enjoyed whenever possible. She is survived by her loving daughters, Deborah Elizabeth Killoran and Deirdre Elizabeth Doherty, her four Granddaughters, Casey Killoran, Elizabeth, Linda & Kathleen Doherty and her adored sister, Genevieve (Debby) Martello, her cherished Niece & Nephew, Kim Mazzella & Jimmy Burke. She was also ”Grand Aunt” to nieces, Maggie, Leigh, Gen, & Frances and her nephews, Kevin & Sean all who lovingly referred to her as ”Grant Betty”.

A gathering of Family and Friends will take place on Friday, 2- 5 & 7- 9 pm at the John Vincent Scalia Funeral Home Mass of Christian Burial Saturday at 11:00 am at Our Lady Help of Christians Church. Arrangements Include Private Cremation. Because of her lifetime love of animals, especially her “Westies” , she would appreciate, in lieu of flowers, a donation be made in her name to P.L.U.T.O. Rescue of Richmond County, P.O. Box 140889, Staten Island NY 10314.
