Ellis W. (Bill) Armstrong, 85, of Shenandoah Junction, West Virginia, formerly of Linesville, passed away on Wednesday, July 4, 2018, at Jefferson Medical Center in Ranson, West Virginia. He had currently lived at his daughter Connie’s home. Born March 12, 1933, in Commodore, Pennsylvania, he was the son of Ellis W. and Daisy Donahey Armstrong.
He married Janet Lee Cornmesser on June 4, 1955, in North East, Pennsylvania. He was a 1952 graduate of Commodore High School. He served our country in the United States Army during the Korean War.
Bill was a self-employed barber from 1958 until 1985. For twenty years, he worked at PPG in Meadville as a glass processer from 1972 until 1991. Bill also helped at Coleman now Royal-Coleman Funeral Home since 1992.
He was a member of the Linesville United Methodist Church. He was a member and Past Master of Pine Masonic Lodge 498 in Linesville and a member of the Valley of Erie Consistory. Bill was a member of the American Legion Post 462, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7842, and the Pymatuning Sportsman’s Club all in Linesville.
He was also a member of the Conneaut Lake Park Fire Hall and the Conneaut Lake Station 3 Fire Hall. Bill was active in the Lakeland Senior Center in Linesville and was instrumental in helping get the new senior center built. He loved being involved and helping organizations.
Bill enjoyed mowing his grass and going golfing. He was extremely well known for his stories and jokes. Survivors include his loving wife of 63 years, Janet Lee Armstrong; four children, Jon Martin Armstrong and his wife, Julia, of Spring Hill, Tennessee, Ricky Lee Armstrong and his wife, Francine, of Wake Forest, North Carolina, Dr. Orton Carl Armstrong and his wife, Susan, of Vienna, West Virginia and Connie Jo Bonner and her husband, Leo, of Shenandoah Junction, West Virginia; six grandchildren, Randy Armstrong, Anthony Armstrong, Erin Thorpe, Morgan Haught, Julius Bonner and Katherine Bonner; six greatgrandchildren, Asher, London, Kennedy, Reese and Lennon Armstrong and Simon Thorpe; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Randy Jay Armstrong; a grandson, Orton Chad Armstrong; four sisters, Frances Buterbaugh, Sarah Kerr, Ruth Keith and Mary Bagley; and three brothers, John Martin Armstrong, Clair Edward Armstrong and Orton C. Armstrong. Calling hours will be on Friday, July 13, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at ROYAL-COLEMAN FUNERAL HOME 6028 U.S. HIGHWAY 6, Linesville. A Masonic Service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friday.
A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 14, at the funeral home with Rev. Russell Hines of the Norrisville United Methodist Church officiating. Additional calling will be Saturday from 10 to 11a.m. Burial with full military honors will follow in Linesville Cemetery.
