Emilene Zoppi of Farmington left this world peacefully on May 5, 2018, in the company of her loving family. She was the devoted wife of John Zoppi, Professor of English. Emily, was born April 8,1938, the daughter of Lumea Shaia Baier and Kenneth Steinackle.

She attended Torrington CT. schools and eventually married John. The couple made their home in New Jersey, where Emily attended Rutgers University and eventually earned her baccalaureate degree in social work.

Subsequent classes at Rutgers in computer science, and her passion for computers, led her to ultimately begin teaching at Union College. Emily loved teaching, and additionally taught at Quinnipiac College and Manchester Community College. Emily was an accomplished seamstress, a voracious reader, an artist who loved to draw with charcoal and paper (especially the human figure), an animal lover, and a devout crusader of local and national animal rescue facilities and organizations.

A talented dancer, she also taught classes at Arthur Murray. She had an incredible sense of style, and was considered a great beauty. Emily is survived by her only son, retired Commander David Bachand, U.S. Navy (JoAnn) of Washington, D.C.; two grandchildren: Christopher (Erika) of Denham Springs, Louisiana, and Lauren of Washington, D.C.; one great grandchild, Ethan; her sisters Sharon Steinackle Garrison (Jim Pietrzak) of Avon, CT.

and Robin Baier Fraser (David Koplowski ) of Monroe, Georgia; her brothers Gary Baier of Farmington, CT. and Lance Baier (fiancee Lynn Fallon) of Farmington, CT. ; two nephews Mark Garrison (AnnMarie) of Torrington, CT.

and Scott Garrison (Yolande) of Torrington, CT. She is also survived by her great niece, Mark and AnnMarie’s daughter Natalie, and a host of cousins. There will be a celebration of Emily’s life at The Phalen Funeral Home, Torrington CT.
