Sandra L. Phillips, beloved wife of Dennis E. Hughes, was called to heaven on Saturday April 28th, 2018. Sandy was born in Greenwood Mississippi on September 20th, 1950. She was the daughter of Jessie L Phillips and Ruby Leopard.

She lived with her husband and their “babies” in Barkhamsted. Their wonderful babies include their dogs- Bella, Lucy, and Pea-pod, their kitty Sweetie, their bunny Buddie, and 3 parakeets-Sweetheart, 2Bird, and Newbird. An avid animal lover and advocate, she rescued over 40 animals during her life.

Sandy was a past owner of the Village Sweet Shoppe in Riverton, The Sweet Little Shoppe in Canaan, and home-based Sand & Sea Originals Custom Florals & Gifts. She also had a trademark for “The Original Yummy Bud”, a candy floral. She was predeceased by her sisters Linda and Libby, and brothers Jimmy and Bobby.

She is survived by her nieces Jennifer Solomon, Stephanie Walsh, Kim Rogala, a nephew James Dietrichsen, and several great nieces and nephews. Services will be held Thursday, May 3rd at 11am at Hillside Cemetery in Torrington. Everyone is encouraged to send a donation to the ASPCA or donate directly to their local animal shelter or animal rescue organization.
