Emily J. Burkhard, 26, Carson Valley, went home to be the Lord Sunday evening after an extended illness. She was born in Altoona, daughter of Gary and Teresa (Nofsker) Burkhard. Surviving are her parents of Carson Valley; her grandmother, Rosella Burkhard of Johnstown; a sister, Arrissa Montague and husband, Ryan, of Portage; a brother, Anthony of Carson Valley; and her two close friends: Emily and Devany.

Emily was a 2010 graduate of Hollidaysburg Sr. High School and she studied Human Development and Family Studies at Penn State Altoona. She was a youth room assistant at the Hollidaysburg Public Library and a Pre-K teacher at the Hollidaysburg YMCA. She also worked in home nursing.

She was a member of the Fantasia Show Choir; the SALT Campus Bible Study; and a member of the Smith Corner Church. Emily was an avid reader and enjoyed singing. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 12, 2018, at Sorge Funeral Home Inc., Hollidaysburg, and from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday, July 13, 2018, at the Smith Corner Church, East Freedom, where a funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. Friday, Pastor David D. McClanahan officiating.

Interment will be at Carson Valley Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, at Emily’s request, please make memorials to the family for a special project.
