Emmanuel E. Brubacher, 95 and lifelong resident of Brutus, died July 12, 2018. Emmanuel was born on March 20, 1923 in Brutus, the son of Harvey and Susanna (Eby) Brubacher and was raised in Brutus, attending the Woodland Country School. He went to work on the family farm before going to work for Hotchkiss and Douma and later started a Dairy Farm.

On March 25, 1944, Emmanuel married the love of his life and the woman he would spend the next 62 years with, the former Della Lowery and together they made their home in Brutus. Della preceded Emmanuel in death on May 25, 2006. To Emmanuel, life revolved around his family, his horses, or his farm.

Those were his true passions in life. He cherished his family and the time he spent with his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. He passionately gave sleigh rides to those that desired them, from his family and friends, to churches, different groups, and for weddings.

He enjoyed tending to his garden and attending horse pulls and was a member of the Northwest Michigan Draft Horse and Mule Association. Emmanuel was also a member of the Brutus Mennonite Church. Emmanuel is survived by his children, Robert (Sherilyn) Brubacher of Cheboygan, Betty (Edward) Jurek of Pellston, William (Cindy) Brubacher of Brutus and Jim (Gloria) Brubacher of Petoskey; 10 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren;2 great great grandchildren; brother, Harvey (Linda) Brubacher of Kalamazoo; and by 2 sisters, Mary Brubacher of Petoskey and Martha (George) Palmateer of Petoskey.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Della; Daughter Mary Ann; siblings, Jesse, Leona, Alma, Grace, and Magdelina; and by a grandson, Brian Jurek. Services celebrating Emmanuel’s life will be held on July 19th at 11am at the Brutus Zion Christian Fellowship Church. The family will receive friends at the church from 10am until the time of service.

Burial will be in the Brutus Mennonite Cemetery. Those wishing to honor Emmanuel’s memory are asked to make a donation to the Bay Bluffs Medical Care Facility – Patient Activities Fund. Arrangements are in the care of the Stone Funeral Home of Petoskey.
