A homegoing celebration for Mrs. Ethel Marie Hearns Scott of Tampa, Florida who passed away on Thursday, May 10, 2018 will be held Saturday, May 19th at 2:00 pm at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church 3005 East Ellicott St., Tampa, FL 33610, Reverend Larry T. Mouton, Jr. pastor, Min. James Richardson, officiating. The interment will be Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery.
On October 10, 1943 Ethel was born in Greenwood, Florida to the late Clem and Essie Mae Hearns, she was the eldest daughter. She attended Union Grove School in Jackson County. She was a dedicated member of New Hope M.B. Church, where she was a member of the adult choir and kitchen ministry.
Sister Scott loved her church and she loved to sing. She retired from Hillsborough County School Board as a cafeteria cook. Ethel and her family lived on Boca Grande Island, where she worked for Frank Oliver as a maid, cooking and preparing meals for dinner parties for him and his wife.
She was an elegant and smart lady. She loved her family and she enjoyed traveling. She was also a jokester and said funny things to make people laugh, she was the life of the party and lived a great life.
If you asked her how she was doing she would say “I’m fine my daughter, Valarie and my son, Jackie take good care of me, I love my children”. She will be laid to rest by her devoted husband the late, Roosevelt Scott, Jr. (the love of her life) and her baby son, Lionel. She was also preceded in death by her son, Roosevelt Senior, Sr.; sisters, Viola Dupont, brother, Robert Hearns; her first love, Jackie ‘s father, Monroe Wilson; granddaughter, Jalisa; and her special and dear friend, Roy Cyler.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories with two children, Jackie Hearns and Valerie Cherry of Tampa; sister, Willie Ann (TJ); brother, Jimmy Dupont; grandchildren, Steffen and Brandon Hearns (mother Tammy) Tara and Roosevelt III (mother Sonia), Carl and Michelle (mother Yvonne), Tisha (Nicholas), Colen, Calvin and Keyonnie (mother Iris); two nieces dear to her heart, Angela and Samantha Mayes; special cherished friendships Barbara Jordan (Sam) and Dorothy Goins (Charles); sister-in-law, Florida and Lyndale; loving ex son-in-law, Reuben Cherry; a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, family members and friends. The visitation will be held at New Hope Missionary Baptist church on Friday, May 18th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. The family will receive friends from 5:30 pm to 7:00 p.m. The family and friends are asked to meet at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church on Saturday for the service.
