Eugene “Gene” Pomatto, 87, of Ladson, husband of Mary Lou Fry Pomatto, passed away Thursday, January 24, 2019 at his residence. Family and friends are invited to attend his visitation from 12 o’clock to the hour of his funeral service at 1 o’clock at James A. Dyal Funeral Home on Thursday, January 31, 2019. Burial will follow in Plantation Memorial Gardens.

Gene was born December 3, 1931 in Wilsonville, IL, son of the late Michael Pomatto and Dora Gordon Pomatto. He graduated from Indiana Tech with a BS in Electronic Engineering. He served in the US Army during the Korean War.

At one time he was employed with Boeing where he worked on the Apollo Space Program. He retired after 38 years from SPAWAR working on Naval Communication Systems. He was an avid bowler and in fact met his wife Mary Lou while bowling.

He enjoyed baseball, hockey, karaoke and horse racing but most of all he loved spending time with his entire family. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him. Survivors, including his wife Mary Lou, are two daughters and two sons: Renee Pomatto Owens (Roger) of Barnwell, Allan Pomatto (Andrea Kozloski) of Goose Creek, Stephen W. Pomatto (Rita) of San Diego, CA and Theresa Pomatto Traynham (Ken) of Summerville, eight grandchildren: Lindsay Owens, Jenny Jackson, Kelsey Gender, Danielle Pomatto, Ryan Pomatto, Noelle Traynham, Devon Traynham and Garrett Traynham and six great grandchildren: Arianna, Gabbi, Rosie, Shelby, Sydney and Clayton as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by three brothers and three sisters. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to: Lutheran Hospice at www. lutheranhomesscfoundation.org/donate-now or ALS Association at websc.
