Eugene R. “Gene the Barber” Schieble, 80, of Sheboygan, passed away on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at Aurora Sheboygan Medical Center. He was born March 23, 1938 in Sheboygan to Eugene J. and Leona F. (Oldenburg) Schieble. He attended Holy Name School and graduated in 1956 from North High School.

Gene proudly served with the US Navy as a 3rd Class Store Keeper from 1956 to 1958 and in the reserves from 1959 to 1962. Upon graduating from barber school, he worked for Martin Lund and later for Clarence Reinhold’s Barber Shop.

He then opened Gene’s Barber Shop on Indiana Avenue and in later years moved this business to the basement of his home. On September 15, 1962, Gene married Eileen L. Kiel at Holy Name Catholic Church in Sheboygan, where he was a lifetime member. Gene was a lifelong sports fan and enjoyed cheering for the Bucks, Packers, and Brewers with his family and friends.

However, the Chicago Cubs were his favorite team. Gene is survived by his wife of 56 years, and his two daughters, Lynn (Keith) Bruckner of Sheboygan and Beth (Jeff) Otte of Cedar Grove. Also, two grandchildren, Nicholas Bruckner of Sheboygan and Kyleen (Michael Glick) Bruckner of Manitowoc.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents, many aunts, uncles, and other relatives. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at 6:00 PM at Ballhorn Chapels Funeral & Cremation Care Center, 1201 N. 8th St., Sheboygan, with Fr. Matthew Widder officiating.

Military Honors will follow the service. Entombment will take place on Thursday, May 3, 2018 at 10:00 AM at Greenlawn Memorial Park. Relatives and friends may visit with the family on Wednesday, May 2, 2018 from 3:00 PM until the time of service at the FUNERAL HOME.

In lieu of flowers a memorial fund will be established in Gene’s name. The family would like to extend their thanks to the staff of Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center Intensive Critical Care Unit for their kind and compassionate care of Gene during his last 9 days.
