Eugenia “Jenny” Gentile, affectionately known as “Nanny”, passed away Friday, September 28, 2018 at the age of 99 at Charlotte Square Assisted Living. Eugenia was born in Calabria, Italy on September 19, 1919 to the late Luigi and Philomena Chiappetta. She loved to cook authentic Italian food and feed as much food to as many people as possible.

Jenny was a loving, kind and fun woman. She was a nanny for 24 years and tenderly shaped the hearts and minds of more than 27 children. Nanny loved each of you: Carmen, Jen-Jen, Ashley, Lauren, Emily, Bradley, Stephen, Emily, Brittany, Christopher, Katie, Rene, Nikki, Alex, Matthew, Jake, Leslie, Bobby, Joey, Christina, Zena, Nicole, Thomas, Caleb, Justin, Alex and Franchesca.

A memorial service will be held Friday, October 5, 2018, from 6-7pm at Hartsell Funeral Home in Midland. Following the memorial service, a visitation will be held from 7-9pm. The funeral mass will be held on Saturday, October 6, 2018 at 11am at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church.

Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Charlotte. Jenny was preceded in death by her husband, Amabile Gentile; son, James Gentile; brother, Dominick Chiappetta and sister, Paolina Amendola. Her survivors include son, Gaetano Gentile; granddaughters, Rene (Tony) Poplin, Nikki (Cavin) Bryant, Leslie (Tommy) Reedy; grandson, Bobby Gentile; great-grandchildren, Alex Poplin, LCpl Matthew Poplin, Jake Bryant, Jeremy, Daniel and Trishanna May, Miranda and Melissa Gentile; nephews Louie and Donald Chiappetta and niece Rosetta Mosco.
