Evelyn Cook Townsend, 86, of Vale, passed away Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at her home. Born in Catawba County, on June 10, 1932, she was a daughter of the late Marshall Cook and Minnie Tallent Cook. She was a homemaker and member of Beulah Baptist Church.

In addition to parents she was preceded by her husband, John Henry Townsend, son, Samuel “Sam” Cook; five brothers, Ed Cook, Reid Cook, Arnie Cook, Grady Cook and Fred Cook; and two sisters, Annie Lail and Lela Houser. She… Read More » is survived by four sons, William Bridges and wife, Rebecca of Hickory, Robert Townsend and fiancée, Sandra of Lawndale; Johnny Bridges, Sr. of Vale, and Keith Townsend and wife, Jennifer of Hickory; two brothers, Jessie Cook of Hickory, and Cullen Joe Cook of Lincoln County; three sisters, Junie Rhoney of Vale, Bessie Bumgarner of Lenoir, and Dorothy Cook of Lawndale; six grandchildren, John Bridges, Jr., David Bridges, Blake Bridges, McKenzie Townsend, Maddie Townsend and Sabrina Bourgeois; and one great-granddaughter, Hannah Bridges. The family would like to give a special thanks to Sharon Cook, Linda Elliott and Sandy Bourgeois for all the care given to Mrs. Townsend in the past couple years.

The family will receive friends from 2:00PM to 3:00PM on Sunday at Stamey-Tysinger Funeral Home, Fallston. The funeral service will be at 3:00PM on Sunday at Stamey-Tysinger Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. RA Brackett and David Bridges officiating.

The burial will follow the service in the St. Paul Baptist Church Cemetery, Casar. Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Childrens Research, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to American Heart Association, Memorial Processing Center, PO Box 5216, Glen Allen, VA 23058-5216.
