Evelyn G. Walker, age 92, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 21, 2019 at Center for Hospice Care in South Bend, IN. She was born on December 5, 1926 in Brazil, IN, to Claude and Dora (Stallman) Gentry, both of whom preceded her in death. On April 6, 1949, Evelyn married Robert A. Walker, Sr., who preceded her in death on November 18, 1970.

Evelyn is survived by her son, Robert A. Walker, Jr., of South Bend; two daughters, Linda (John) Annable of Sammamish, WA, and Julie (Doug) Magers of West Lafayette, IN; six grandchildren, Marcus Annable and Joe Annable of Sammamish, WA, Jordan (Kandi) Annable of Covington, WA, Grace (Chris) Lemonas of Seattle, WA, Benjamin Magers of Ft. Wayne, IN and Samuel (Alexandra) Magers of Indianapolis, IN; sister, Mildred (Ron) Kinderman of Sellersburg, IN; and brother, Nolan (Bette) Gentry of Paris, IL. In addition to her parents and husband, Evelyn was preceded in death by two children, Susan Elaine Walker and John Alan Walker; three sisters, Glenna Maker, E. Joan Wittenmyer, and Delores Gentry, as well as three brothers, Charles Gentry, Harold Gentry, and Herbert Gentry.

Evelyn was an administrative assistant for the federal government and attended Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church. She enjoyed travel and was able to go on many vacations and cruises. Evelyn was very active socially and never met a stranger.

She belonged to two card clubs and was a member of the Purple Ladies Society with several lifelong friends. She also loved water aerobics and rarely missed a class. Evelyn enjoyed going to restaurants (linner) with dear friends.

However, her most favorite activity was to be with her family, particularly her grandchildren, who knew her as “Gege”, whom she adored and were adored by her. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. A memorial service will be held at 12:00pm on Monday, January 28, 2019 at Palmer Funeral Home—Hickey Chapel, 17131 Cleveland Road, South Bend.

Pastor Brad Davick will officiate. Graveside services and inurnment will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park in Granger, IN. Friends may visit with the family from 10:00am-12:00pm at the funeral home prior to services on Monday.
