Francis “Frank” Agnew, C.M. entered into eternal life on March 17, 2019 at the apostle of Charity Residence, on the campus of St. Mary of the Barrens, Perryville, Mo.

He was 85 years old. Fr. Frank was born in Perryville on November 21, 1933, to Erline and Daniel Agnew.

He attended St. Vincent Elementary and High School, graduating in 1951. Fr. Frank entered the Novitiate the Fall of 1951 and professed vows in the Congregation of the Mission September 8, 1953.

He was ordained to the Priesthood on June 5, 1960 in the Church of the Assumption, Perryville. Following ordination, Fr. Frank achieved several advanced degrees in Theology, English Literature, and Sacred Scripture.

This prepared him for a life of ministry in education and seminary formation. His teaching and administrative ministry included St. Louis, Denver, and Kenya. In the midst of his ministry as a teacher and administrator, he became the pastor of Our Lady of victory Church, Perryville from 1993 to 2007.

In 2010, Fr. Frank returned to St. Louis from Kenya, Settling in at Lazarist Residence in South St. Louis County. From there, while he was able, he continued to help with Sacramental Ministry at various parishes, and offered presentations on Scripture to Adult Education groups around St. Louis.

As his health declined, he was able to do less outside the local Vincentian community, though he remained a vital presence in our local house. Eventually, in August, 2018, as his declining health necessitated, Fr. Frank was assigned to the Apostle of Charity Residence in Perryville.

Fr. Frank is survived by a sister, Sr. Mary Phillip Agnew, DC, and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Daniel Agnew and one sister Sr. Marie Agnew.

Reception of the Body will be held at the Church of the Assumption on Tuesday, March 19 from 5:00 pm until time of the Wake Service at 7:00 pm. Funeral Mass Wednesday, March 20 at the Church of the Assumption at 10:00 am with Fr. Ray Van Dorpe officiating.

Internment in the Community Cemetery at St. Mary’s of the Barrens. Reception, Laboure Hall, Visitors Center. Memorials preferred to Congregation to the Mission.
