Obituary for Frances Amaro Zizumbo Frances Amaro Zizumbo June 27, 1934 – June 2, 2018 Frances Amaro Zizumbo was born to John and Petra Amaro on June 27th, 1934 in Dodge City Kansas, she grew up with 13 siblings. Frances passed away on June 2nd, 2018. Frances spent her final moments surrounded by her treasured family, in the comfort of her own home.
Frances has been reunited with her beloved husband, John, and they will be celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary on August 14th– together, as God intended. Frances was an undeniably supportive mother to 5 Children: Mary, Theresa, Yolanda, Deborah, and Johnny. She was most commonly referred to as “Nana” to 6 Grandchildren: Jared; Kent-John; Dale-James; Lindsay; Matthew; and Justin, and 12 more great Grandchildren.
Frances was always revered as the cornerstone to her family. She brought the family together to celebrate everyone’s birthday, every holiday, every milestone, and any other reason she felt necessary. These consistent family celebrations have been a staple for her family for 40+ years.
She would not only organize the celebration, but she would spend hours (sometimes days) preparing the most amazing, unforgettable, homemade meals, always cooking more than enough so she could send leftovers home with everyone. Her home-cooked meals and recipes (that were never written down possessed an unreplaceable ingredient of love), will be truly missed by anyone who had the privilege of tasting her tamales, chile verde, pozole, mole, atole, tortillas, salsa, etc. Frances was more than a Mother and Grandmother to her family, she was a friend, a role model, and the most consistent support person you could ever ask for.
She was selfless and stubborn in her pursuit to provide everything she could for her family. She was always giving and never afraid to stand up and defend her family in any way necessary. Frances was a devout Catholic and emulated her faith throughout her life.
She was constantly expressing her faith through highly reverent prayer and often using her faith and relationship with God to give blessings to her family. Frances was very involved with the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church throughout her life, participating in the following: a member of the choir, a founding member of the Guadalupanos (a group that raised money for the celebration of Our Lady of Guadalupe), Vice President and President of the Guadalupanos, member of the Parish Council (where she helped with the ordination of Father Eugene and farewell of Father Javier), served as a part of the Liturgy and Social Ministry Committee (organizing events and raising money), as well as hours of donated time cooking and service to raise money for the celebration of Our Lady of Guadalupe. One of her most proud moments through her service with the Catholic Church was when she was recognized as the “Catholic Women of the Year” for the entire Utah Diocese, a very honorable recognition.
The family would like to express appreciation and gratitude to Solstice Hospice for their loving care, especially her Nurse and Daughter Debbie.
